Now, Is it Dumb to Buy a Smart Watch?

November 17, 2021 Harold Miller 0

With smart watches not offering that much functionality by themselves, and the supposed hassle of having to charge it every night or so, you would want to ask if it is dumb to buy a smartwatch. Smartwatches ever since the first one hit the market I asked myself so what is the point of this thing to which the ad replied it’ll change your life, it’ll make you fitter, healthier, more organized, and more efficient in everything you do. Smart Watches, to Buy or Not to Buy? Well, I guess smartphones weren’t enough there’s nothing a Smart Watch can do that smartphone can’t, in fact, everything a watch can do a smartphone can do much better, and therein lies my problem with this whole concept. It takes more actions per minute to execute the same functions on a watch than it does on a phone. The fact that it’s supposed to be easier and quicker to do certain things is irrelevant because it’s completely handicapped as a piece of hardware or a piece of tech. Its biggest limitation screen size it’s so small that you can barely fit one text message on your screen everything requires you to swipe constantly to get to the right page your app or whatever it is and then you do some more swiping and tapping to do what you actually wanted to do in the first place. And because the device is so small it has a tiny battery that you have to charge every night I can barely take charging my phone every couple days why then would I also invest in charging a useless handicapped version of my phone as well. Functions of the Smart Watch Now it does have some micro functions that can be useful for example the ability to quickly access your media player functions hit that next or volume buttons when you’re on a bus for example and listening to something. It is always a hassle to try and take your gigantic five and a half inch phone out of your pocket every time you want to change the song so I get it it’s useful in that regard but you know what works better in-line controls on your earphones they don’t require you to shell out $500 on a piece of tech that you’re barely ever going to use or having to charge it every night. Learn more! Smart Watches for Wellness It is all in these types of micro functions that smart watches seem to pride themselves on. One of which is health monitoring, heart rate and pedometers essentially all they are and I don’t even remember those being that expensive or even all that useful knowing your heart rate is great for athletes or sick people who have some sort of condition like cardiac arrhythmia or something else. The information you get from them means nothing at all so you walk 10,000 steps yesterday so what you’re still probably slightly obese because you know what it doesn’t stop you from scuffing down muffin after muffin. If you are a health-oriented person a number of steps that you take a day is the least of your concerns, you are far more likely to be concerned with how far you ran or how heavy the thing you lifted was or how many reps you did that day it’s pretty much all just a marketing gimmick. The Samsung gear s2 smart watch ad is a really cool ad it really makes it seem like the watch is going to completely replace your phone and for the better yeah if only but the watch like all others connects to your phone to provide the functionality that it does without the phone the watch is nothing but without the watch the phone is still great. If you don’t have a watch to go with your expensive smartphone it’s not as if suddenly you can’t text or call or browse the web play games or whatever else you may do with your phone, the only thing that will be missing is the constant reminder on your wrist that tells you how much money you have wasted.
